GLOSSARY INQUIRY: AUTOPOIESIS
Refers to the self-maintaining and self-modifying process of a complex unity. Autopoiesis literally means “self-production”.
A complex system, or unity, is collection of interconnected components or parts that are designed to support and produce each other. Examples of autopoietic systems include cells, organisms, social systems and, some say, language.
In terms of formal education, any phenomenon that might be described as a learner is autopoietic.
