GLOSSARY INQUIRY: LANGUAGE For complexivists, human thought cannot be reduced to language, but the two are intimately tied and mutually affective. Languages such as English are themselves complex systems that emerge and evolve through the interaction of their participants. Because language allows human beings to couple their attentions, it is one of the principle means by which they join together into more complex cognitive unities. As educators, we must realize that language is not a means to transmit information between two or more people. Rather, it is a rich site for interaction, interpretation and coupling.
