AIMS AND SCOPE

Submissions are invited from both scholars and practitioners. The main criterion for acceptance is that articles demonstrate a link with the idea of complexity in its technical, applied, philosophical, theoretical, or narrative manifestations

We publish articles between 1,000 and 10,000 words. Submissions must be original and not be either previously published or currently being considered for publication elsewhere. There are five sections to the journal and we welcome submissions for any of these.

Semantic play: Contributors to this section of Complicity are asked to select one term that is prominent in the educational literature and to give it a complexivist spin. Submissions should be between 1,000 to 2,000 words in length. Please send such articles to Donna Trueit at (Donnas email address).

Vignettes: Complicity’s Vignette section will display short descriptions of evocative episodes via either prose, poetry, photograph, or drawing. Submissions should be between 2,000 to 4,000 words in length. Please send such works to Wm. Doll, chief Vignetter at wdoll@lsu.edu. (Vignette: [French, vigne, vine]. Originally a running ornament of vine leaves, as used in decoration, vignette now refers to a short descriptive or evocative episode, or a dainty poem or artistic drawing).

Scholarly Articles: Original research articles of between 4,000 to 10,000 words which address educational issues from a complex perspective. Please send such articles to Deborah Osberg at (email address)

Responses to articles: In the interests of keeping the conversation open, Complicity will be publishing responses or “reflections” on some of the scholarly articles published. Normally these responses will be solicited by the editorial team. Selected respondents will be asked to elaborate on the article in question, showing how its insights link to other bodies of knowledge.

Book reviews: Complicity book reviews are normally short, approximately 1000-1500 words. They should be designed to provide a quick, informative, and insightful service to Complicity readers. Complicity also publishes essay reviews, in which one or more books, journal articles or other publications are analyzed and weaved together to provide a sophisticated review that explores complexivist themes and sensibilities and their potential implications for expanding the boundaries for educational research and practice. Normally, book reviews are solicited directly by the Book Review Editor, Darren Stanley. Inquiries should be sent directly to him.
